Strength

The Faculty of Education was established in the year 2005 with the recognition of ERC NCTE, Bhubaneswar for an annual intake of 100 students in Bachelor in Education (B.Ed.) programme. The faculty was established during the period when there was a dearth of Teacher Education Institutions in the newly carved state of Jharkhand.

Jamshedpur Women’s College, Jamshedpur came up with a new and well equipped building for imparting B.Ed. programme. From session 2015 this faculty is offering 2 year B.Ed with an annual intake of 200 and 2 year M.Ed with an annual intake of 50.

Faculty of Education has its own building .It has big class rooms, method room , Principal’s Chamber, separate chamber for Dean, Co-ordinator and H.O.D of B.Ed. , Office , Library , Computer Lab, Psychology Lab, Tailoring Room, Multipurpose hall, Educational Technology Hall, Washrooms for staff and students. There is parking space for four wheelers and two wheelers. We also have a lift facility and badminton court for the students. The college has an air conditioned audio-visual room with L.C.D. projector, screen and computer along with public address system. The college has its own computer, scanner, printer and a Xerox machine. The internet facility in the library has helped the students as well as teachers and contributed to the growth of the college. The examination department has been computerized and examination work has been smoothed. The ICTE application in teaching is adopted by the institution recently. Hostel facility is provided for 250 students. The college has a modern educational technology lab.

The Faculty of Education nurture good academic culture from its very inception. It has organized many National level Seminar on relevant issues. Educationists of national repute have visited this faculty to deliver lecture in national level seminar and workshop.

This faculty has catered to the needs and gave access to education to women in the field of teacher education which was a bare necessity of the region in particular and the whole state of Jharkhand in general.

The faculty has created multiple modes of learning. With the conventional classroom teaching for regular students, provision of special classes for slow learners also exists. In regular classroom transaction the faculty makes use of technology to make teaching- learning more meaningful and interesting. The students are also exposed to field experience through short educational tours.

This Faculty also has a very high percentage of placements. Students of B.Ed. are placed not only in and around Jamshedpur but also outside the state and even schools abroad.

Faculty of Education is having a separate library with adequate number of books.

The Faculty course of action

  1. a) Planning –Teaching plan creates a distinct plan of progression of the course
  2. b) Monitoring- work progress register is used to keep a tab on the progress made by individual teachers.
  3. c) Review meetings at the end of each term helps in deciding the future course of action.
  4. d) Correction action- in case of absence of one teacher another teacher takes up the course.
  5. e) Feedback from all stake holders is regular feature of the faculty.
  6. f) Execution-the objectives are extended through Co-ordinator and the Principal.
  • This faculty has achieved Grade ‘A’ from NAAC, Bangalore in the year 2011. Online admission process and automation of library is complete.
  • Wi-Fi and internet facility is available in the department.
  • Computer lab facility with internet facility for students to facilitate learning and research work.

Weakness

  • Library has to be strengthened more in term of number of books and research related material.
  • Research activities needs to be promoted and encouraged.
  • Though the faculty is having a good number of highly qualified teaching staff working since a long time, they need to be regularized.
  • This is a self-financed faculty. This faculty needs to be funded to carry on various academic and research related activities.
  • This faculty needs to be undertaken by Govt. of Jharkhand like other departments.
  • Faculty recharge programme needs to be encouraged.

Opportunities

  • This department is a premiere department in teacher education of Jharkhand and certainly has the opportunity to become Centre for Advance Studies in Education, where no Centre for Advance Studies in Education exists in the state.
  • B.Ed. Department has the opportunity to become Centres for Advance Studies.
  • A Centre for incubation and innovation be created to find application to knowledge created in the classroom and lab.
  • With the strength and potentials of B.Ed. department, there is scope for more interdisciplinary and trans-disciplinary programmes/courses and research.
  • Technology Park can be created in the campus with the help of local schools.
  • Model Solar Energy park to be created in the campus.
  • Garden for Medicinal plant to be promoted in the campus and college green house.

Challenges

  • Training the local rural students with national and global competence and communication skill empowering women student specially from disadvantage group.
  • The College has expanded in terms of students strength, academic programmes, research projects etc., but to that extent the staff strength in academic and administrative unit has not been increased.
  • To extend the academic departments of the college.
  • The administrative unit have not been expanded.
  • The Automation of the admission, administration, examination through ICT.
  • Project from Industries need to be attracted more.
  • Research has to lead to filling of patents.
  • Potential Department need to raise to international standard.
  • Consistence working on long term project such as solar energy and rain water harvesting to suit national goal to be undertaken.
  • Training the local rural student with national and global competence and communication skill empowering women student specially from disadvantage group.
  • Retaining and developing qualified teaching staff members as the nature of their job is not permanent.
  • Department need to be raised to international standard.
